Government Teacher Turns Barren Land Into Profitable Castor Farming Venture

Jodhpur: A government schoolteacher in Tinwari, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, has turned challenging agricultural conditions into an opportunity by cultivating castor alongside his regular job. The farmer is growing the crop in an area where groundwater levels have reportedly fallen below 800 feet.

Despite the severe water shortage and difficult soil conditions, he has developed castor cultivation as an additional source of income. The crop, which requires relatively less water, has helped him make productive use of land considered unsuitable for conventional farming.

According to the report, improvements in seed treatment have also contributed to better crop quality. These developments have helped improve the quality of castor production, while demand for castor oil has increased across the country.

The teacher’s experiment demonstrates how farmers in water-scarce regions can explore alternative crops suited to local conditions. By continuing farming alongside his government job, he has reportedly created an opportunity to earn lakhs of rupees annually.

The report highlights the potential of castor cultivation in areas facing groundwater depletion. However, specific details about the cultivated area, production volume, investment and exact annual earnings have not been provided.
