Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 105 food businesses across the state following a special inspection drive ahead of Diwali. Major brands and quick-commerce platforms, including Zepto, Blinkit and Biryani By Kilo, were among those covered by the inspections.
The campaign was conducted on November 4 and 5 under the leadership of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. In Mumbai alone, licences of 28 food businesses were suspended. The action included Zepto’s Worli outlet and a Blinkit facility operated by Blink Commerce Private Limited. Outlets of Biryani By Kilo, Tossin Pizza in Worli and Jumbo Burger were also inspected.
The FDA additionally ordered the closure of seven establishments across Maharashtra, including three in Pune, two in Amravati and one each in Mumbai and the Konkan region. Rajdhani Biryani Centre in Borivali was among those ordered to shut down.
During the drive, officials seized food stock worth more than ₹1.35 crore from over 69 establishments. Refined soybean oil was also seized from a D-Mart outlet on Kamptee Road in Nagpur over alleged licence-condition violations.
Three FIRs were registered, two people were arrested and two vehicles were seized. Commissioner Mundhe warned that violations of food safety regulations would invite strict action.
