Delhi High Court Stays Dismissal Of JNU Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed the dismissal of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor and Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Justice Anup J. Bhambhani issued a notice to the university while hearing Akoijam’s petition challenging the termination order.

Akoijam had approached the court seeking relief against JNU’s decision to dismiss him. The court has scheduled the next hearing for January, while the university has been asked to respond to the petition.

Akoijam represents the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress MP. Before his dismissal, he served as a professor at JNU’s School of Social Sciences.

According to reports, at least 11 female students submitted sexual harassment complaints against him in May. On October 9, JNU dismissed the professor after an internal inquiry reportedly found him guilty of the allegations.

The High Court’s interim order puts the dismissal on hold while the legal proceedings continue. The allegations and the university’s internal inquiry are now part of the matter being considered through the court proceedings.

Further developments are expected when the case comes up for its next hearing in January.
