New Delhi: A three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area on Thursday morning, killing two people and injuring four others. Around 15 people are feared trapped beneath the debris, according to the Delhi Fire Service.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 am in Gali Sattara, near Chawri Bazar Metro Station. After receiving information about the collapse, the fire department dispatched six fire engines to the site.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) also joined the search and rescue operation to locate people feared trapped under the rubble.

Following the incident, the MCD suspended two officials with immediate effect. They have been identified as Assistant Engineer (Building) Mohammad Naeem and Junior Engineer (Building) Aman Dalal.

The collapse is reported to be Delhi’s sixth major building collapse incident this year. According to the report, five earlier incidents, including those in Satya Niketan and Seemapuri, had collectively claimed 21 lives. Several students were among the victims.

Rescue teams are continuing efforts at the collapse site as authorities work to determine whether more people remain trapped.
