According to information attributed to a senior police official, the audio message contained a demand for crores of rupees. Police are examining the recording to establish the sender’s identity and determine whether the individual is actually connected to a criminal gang or is using its name to intimidate the actor.
Investigators are also comparing the voice in the recording with voices available in police records. No FIR had been registered in the matter at the time of the report.
This is not the first recent threat involving a Bollywood personality. Actor Tusshar Kapoor reportedly received a similar audio message a few days earlier. In that case, the sender claimed to be Harry Boxer, although preliminary police investigations reportedly raised doubts about the authenticity of the recording.
The report also refers to an attack on actor Tiger Shroff, for which the Lawrence gang was said to have claimed responsibility. Thirteen accused have reportedly been arrested in that case.
Separately, actor Amitabh Bachchan and singer Diljit Dosanjh had reportedly received bomb threats through an email, following which Bachchan’s security was increased.
Police are continuing to investigate the message sent to Khurrana and are examining whether it originated from an organised gang or someone impersonating criminal groups.
