Bombay High Court Grants Copyright Protection To Ramayana Film

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has granted interim copyright protection to Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana: Part 1, directing unidentified individuals, organisations and digital platforms not to record, host or stream the film without permission.

The order was passed on Monday following a petition filed by Godpower Media Private Limited, which sought protection for the film’s script, characters, footage, songs and recordings against copyright infringement.

The company holds the film’s copyright and distribution rights in India and overseas markets, according to the report.

The court’s directions are aimed at preventing unauthorized circulation of the film’s content, including pirated links and mirror websites. Internet service providers and social media platforms will be required to act after receiving written notices concerning infringing material.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 5, 2026. According to the report, its advance bookings have already generated more than 73 crore ahead of release.

The interim protection is intended to safeguard the film’s copyrighted material from unauthorized recording, distribution and online streaming. The court’s order covers digital platforms as well as other parties involved in making the content available without authorization.
