New Delhi: Chaos erupted inside the Delhi Municipal Corporation House on Friday during a debate on pollution, as councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reportedly clashed.
According to media reports, the House was scheduled to discuss measures to tackle pollution in Delhi. However, the meeting quickly turned into a heated confrontation involving arguments, physical altercations and alleged vandalism.
BJP and AAP councillors reportedly shouted at each other, threw water and tossed files during the disruption. Congress councillors were also reportedly involved in the incident.
The situation escalated when councillors allegedly attempted to damage microphones and throw official files, further disrupting proceedings. The planned discussion on Delhi’s pollution challenges was overshadowed by the confrontation inside the municipal chamber.
As tensions mounted, marshals intervened and escorted Mayor Pravesh Wahi out of the House to ensure the mayor’s safety. Their intervention came as the disorder intensified and the meeting became increasingly difficult to manage.
The incident disrupted the civic body’s planned debate on ways to address the capital’s pollution problem. The confrontation also raised concerns about maintaining order during official proceedings, particularly when elected representatives are discussing major public issues.
The available report does not provide details about any injuries, arrests, formal complaints or disciplinary action following the incident. It also remains unclear whether the meeting resumed after the disruption. Further information from the municipal corporation or other official sources would be needed to establish the subsequent developments.
