Chinmay Sutar Scores Unbeaten 400, Creates Ranji Trophy History

Dimapur: Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar has created a major milestone in Indian domestic cricket by scoring an unbeaten 400 runs against Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy

The 29-year-old became only the second Indian batter to reach the 400-run mark in first-class cricket. The previous Indian record was set by Maharashtra’s Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who scored an unbeaten 443 against Kathiawar in 1948.

Playing in Dimapur, Chinmay faced 517 deliveries and struck 46 boundaries and seven sixes during his remarkable innings. His performance helped him move past Prithvi Shaw’s previous Ranji Trophy innings record of 379 runs, as reported.

The achievement is particularly notable because nearly 78 years had passed since an Indian batter last scored at least 400 runs in a first-class innings. Chinmay’s innings has therefore drawn attention to his performance in the ongoing domestic season.

According to the supplied report, this was only the second innings of his first-class career, making the milestone even more striking. His ability to remain at the crease for an extended period and convert his start into a triple-figure and then a 400-run score demonstrated considerable endurance and concentration.

The Ranji Trophy is India’s premier domestic first-class cricket competition and has long served as a pathway for players seeking national recognition. Performances of this scale can attract attention from selectors and cricket followers, although selection decisions depend on several factors.

Chinmay’s unbeaten 400 places his name among the notable individual batting performances in Indian domestic cricket history.
