WPL Auction Sells 25 Players as Sophie Molineux Joins UP Warriors

Kochi: The fifth season auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) saw 25 players sold, including 18 Indian cricketers and seven overseas players, in Kochi.

Australia’s Sophie Molineux emerged as the most expensive purchase, with UP Warriorz securing her services for 1.10 crore. Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana also joined UP Warriorz for 30 lakh.

Delhi Capitals bought Indian player Kiran Navgire for 75 lakh, while Gujarat Giants signed G Kamalini for 40 lakh.

The auction featured players from India and overseas competing for places across the five WPL franchises. The 25 successful purchases included a majority of Indian players, with seven international cricketers also finding teams.

However, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu remained unsold at the auction. Her name was among those that did not attract a successful bid.

The auction outcomes will shape the teams’ squads for the upcoming WPL season, with franchises adding players according to their requirements and budgets. Molineux’s 1.10 crore deal stood out as the highest purchase among the players sold during the event.
