The visit was confirmed by the Indian High Commission in Ottawa following a telephone conversation between Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. During their discussion, both leaders agreed to build on the positive momentum in bilateral ties and work towards concrete outcomes in trade, energy, technology, security and people-to-people exchanges.
According to a statement issued by the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to concluding negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) at the earliest opportunity.
The proposed trade agreement is expected to provide a framework for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries. Both governments have set a target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.
The visit comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Ottawa. Recent discussions have focused on strengthening strategic cooperation and advancing shared priorities in several sectors.
Modi’s December visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two leaders to review progress on bilateral initiatives and discuss the next steps in trade negotiations and wider cooperation.
