The notice concerns statements allegedly published by Majithia on his verified X account on October 26, 2026. According to the notice, the post linked Ghumman with the drug trade and other alleged illegal activities. Ghumman’s side has described the allegations as false, baseless and defamatory.
The notice reportedly refers to claims involving Punjab’s drug de-addiction centres, an alleged drug mafia and the Suman Arbour Group. Ghumman’s side has denied any connection with the group or the illegal medicines trade, asserting that the statements have harmed his personal reputation, social standing and credibility in public office.
The notice also objects to the tagging of national and Punjab-based media organisations, journalists and institutional accounts in the post. Ghumman’s side claims this amplified the allegations and caused him distress and public questioning.
Majithia has been asked to fulfil three demands within 24 hours of receiving the notice: remove the disputed post and related content from platforms under his control, publish a public apology on his verified X account and issue a press release retracting the allegations. He has also been asked to provide a written assurance that similar statements will not be repeated.
The notice warns that failure to comply could lead to legal proceedings under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, concerning defamation, and Section 351 concerning criminal intimidation. A civil suit seeking compensation for alleged damages has also been threatened.
The allegations and demands remain claims presented by Ghumman’s side in the legal notice; the report does not establish them as judicial findings.
