Rapido Licence Restored in Chandigarh, Enabling Cab and Bike Taxi Bookings Again

Chandigarh: Rapido’s aggregator licence has been restored in Chandigarh after a prolonged suspension, clearing the way for the company to resume its services in the city. The decision was announced by the Transport Secretary after hearing the company’s appeal against an order issued by the State Transport Authority (STA).

With the licence reinstated, residents will be able to book cabs and bike taxis through Rapido’s mobile application. The company claims it is currently the only platform in Chandigarh holding a valid aggregator licence.

According to Rapido, the Transport Secretary ruled in its favour after giving all parties an appropriate opportunity to present their arguments. The decision follows the suspension of licences held by major aggregator platforms operating in Chandigarh between June and August.

The company said the restoration would help maintain access to affordable transport options for passengers. It also said the move would protect employment and earning opportunities for its “captains”, the drivers associated with the platform.

Rapido’s Chief Operating Officer, Sunil Shah, welcomed the decision and thanked the Chandigarh Administration. He said the company remained committed to providing convenient and affordable services while complying with applicable regulations.

Shah added that Rapido would continue working with the administration and other stakeholders to address the city’s transport requirements.

The restoration marks a significant development for app-based mobility services in Chandigarh, although the company’s claim of being the city’s only licensed aggregator has not been independently verified in the report.
