Jaipur: Jaipur’s municipal corporation launched a special overnight cleanliness campaign in the Walled City on Saturday to make Rajasthan’s capital cleaner and more attractive ahead of Diwali.
The campaign, titled “Operation Clean Sweep 2.0,” began at midnight and focused on cleaning major markets, roads and narrow lanes across the historic Walled City. Municipal teams worked through the night to remove accumulated waste from public spaces.
Mayor Sunil Kothari and Municipal Commissioner Om Kasera personally took charge of the campaign and visited different areas to oversee the work. The mayor also picked up a broom and participated in the cleaning activities.
According to the information provided, around 2,500 sanitation workers and approximately 1,000 resources were deployed for the operation. The teams covered markets, roads and internal streets, clearing garbage as part of the citywide effort.
The campaign comes ahead of Diwali, when cleaning activities in homes and commercial establishments generally increase the amount of waste generated. The municipal corporation has therefore focused on improving sanitation in busy markets and residential areas before the festival.
Officials are also seeking to encourage greater attention to cleanliness across the city. The overnight drive is part of the civic body’s efforts to maintain cleaner streets and public spaces during the festive season
