Amritsar: As per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted an alleged cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two persons and recovery of 5 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine) and three foreign-made pistols, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sohan Singh of Chogawan village and Saleem of Bandala village, both in Amritsar. Police also recovered two 9mm pistols and one .30-bore pistol, along with magazines. A Splendor motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband was also impounded.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said , preliminary investigation suggests that the module was being operated in coordination with foreign-based smugglers, who allegedly supplied drugs and weapons for further distribution through local associates.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, CI Amritsar teams intercepted the two suspects near Adda Baoli, close to Mata Kaulan Hospital on Lopoke Road, where they were allegedly preparing to deliver a consignment of drugs and weapons. The police subsequently recovered the ICE and firearms from their possession.
DGP Yadav said investigators have identified another key member of the alleged network and raids are underway to arrest him. Further investigation is being conducted to establish the forward and backward linkages of the module and identify other individuals involved in the alleged trafficking network.
A case, FIR No. 55 dated September 9, 2026, has been registered at the Police Station, State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, under Sections 22, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
