Delhi: Police made a big revelation regarding the incident of a five-storey PG building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area. Investigation has revealed that the main wall was removed to build a shop on the ground floor on the same day the building collapsed. According to the police, water had accumulated in the basement due to the rains of the last few days, after which the repair work was going on there for eight to ten days. Three trucks of rubble were filled to bring the basement level with the ground floor. The labour contractor, Sanoj Kumar, who got this work done, has been arrested from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh. The contractor told the police that he was hired by Mahesh, son of the landlord Hariram Gupta, on a daily wage of Rs 2,800. Due to the removal of the wall, the building could not bear the weight and finally collapsed like a house of cards. Seven people, including five students, died in this incident and five people were injured.
PG lease agreement, arrests and MCD action
The police investigation also revealed that four floors of this building were rented by Sudhanshu Lavnish and his friend Shubham Tyagi in August 2025 for Rs 1.05 lakh per month and due to the poor condition of the building, it was given at a much lower rent. They were running a PG here under the name ‘Hostel Daze’. The agreement had shocking terms that the PG operator would not be responsible for any accident, natural calamity or personal injury and parents were also not allowed to meet the children. Five accused have been arrested so far in this case, including the landlord’s son Mahesh, contractor Sanoj Kumar and PG operator Sudhanshu, while the main owner 81-year-old Hariram Gupta and his wife have already been sent to judicial custody. The police are searching for the second PG operator, Shubham Tyagi, who is absconding, and the MCD has also initiated strict action against illegal constructions after this incident.
