Abbotsford, Canada: Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk reportedly escaped unhurt after his convoy was targeted in a shooting in Abbotsford, British Columbia, late on September 5.
According to available information, the incident took place shortly after 11 pm near the 2500-block of McCallum Road and South Fraser Way, a few hours after Virk’s show at Rogers Forum. The attackers, reportedly travelling in a black SUV, fired around seven shots at a Rolls-Royce carrying Virk and three other occupants.
The vehicle was reportedly bulletproof, and although bullet marks were visible on its windows, the shots did not penetrate the cabin. All four occupants escaped without injuries. The show promoter was also travelling in the vehicle.
Following the shooting, the SUV allegedly used by the attackers was found engulfed in flames at the 2400-block of Sunnyside Place, a short distance from the scene. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Abbotsford Police’s Major Crime Unit is investigating the case, with police reportedly treating the incident as a targeted shooting based on initial indications. No group has so far claimed responsibility.
Sergeant Paul Walker has appealed to the public for information, particularly dashcam footage recorded between 10:45 pm and midnight on September 5, that could assist investigators.
The incident comes amid concerns over attacks involving members of the Punjabi entertainment community in Canada. Previous incidents have included the killing of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and a shooting outside actor-singer Gippy Grewal’s residence.
Police is continuously putting efforts to determine the motive behind the latest shooting and identify those responsible.
