The visit comes as political activity intensifies in Punjab ahead of the upcoming elections, with senior leaders from national parties increasing their engagement in the state. Venugopal is expected to hold meetings with Congress organisational leaders in Chandigarh to discuss party-related matters.
Rahul Gandhi is also expected to visit Punjab soon, although the report does not specify the date or details of his proposed programme.
Political activity within the Congress has reportedly gathered pace following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Punjab. The visits by senior national leaders are taking place as parties prepare their organisational strategies and strengthen coordination with state-level leadership ahead of the electoral contest.
Venugopal’s discussions with organisational leaders are expected to focus on party affairs and preparations for the upcoming political challenges. However, the available report does not provide an agenda for the meeting or identify the leaders expected to attend.
The Congress has not been reported as announcing further details about Rahul Gandhi’s itinerary. The timing and programme of his Punjab visit therefore remain subject to an official announcement.
With elections approaching, visits by national leaders are likely to remain an important part of political engagement in Punjab. Further details about the Chandigarh meeting and Rahul Gandhi’s visit are awaited.
