Amritsar: A group of 1,828 Sikh pilgrims from Punjab is expected to travel to Pakistan to celebrate the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, his birthplace.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the Sikh jatha is scheduled to depart on November 22, 2026, for a 10-day religious pilgrimage. The visit will allow devotees to pay their respects at the historic shrine and participate in celebrations marking the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.

Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, located in Pakistan’s Punjab province, holds immense religious significance for Sikhs worldwide. It is associated with the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and attracts pilgrims from different parts of the world on important religious occasions.

The report states that the pilgrims’ passports have been submitted to the Pakistan High Commission as part of the travel arrangements. The submission of passports forms part of the documentation process for obtaining the necessary travel permissions.

The pilgrimage is an important occasion for devotees wishing to visit historic Sikh shrines across the border. Such religious journeys are generally organised through established procedures involving travel documentation and the relevant authorities.

However, the supplied report does not provide further details about the final visa approvals, the complete itinerary or the other gurdwaras the group may visit during the 10-day journey.

The jatha’s planned departure on November 22 will be followed by the religious visit to Nankana Sahib, subject to the completion of the required travel formalities.
