New Delhi: Opposition leaders marched towards the Supreme Court on Monday to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The demonstration included prominent leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge.
According to the report, opposition MPs began their march from Barakhamba Road in Delhi but were stopped approximately 500 metres before reaching the Supreme Court. Later, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Kharge and other opposition MPs reportedly entered the Supreme Court premises.
The opposition also filed a petition challenging alleged irregularities in the SIR process and raising concerns involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The petition reportedly lists 11 leaders from 10 political parties, including Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.
The petition seeks judicial intervention regarding the electoral revision process and the issues raised by opposition parties. The allegations remain subject to judicial consideration, and the filing of a petition does not establish that irregularities occurred.
Before the march, Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference lasting approximately 40 minutes. He described the opposition’s demonstration as an inclusive movement, using a comparison with a traditional wedding procession to convey that anyone could participate.
The development followed a letter sent by opposition MPs to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Sunday. They had requested an appointment to submit a memorandum concerning their grievances. According to the supplied report, they were advised to approach the court by filing a petition instead.
The opposition’s legal move has brought renewed attention to the SIR process and its implementation. Further proceedings and the court’s response will determine how the issues raised in the petition are addressed.
